Medicare chiropractic care in Parramatta

If you have a chronic condition and a care plan from your GP, Medicare can help pay for up to 5 allied health visits a year, and chiropractic is one of them. At Spirit Chiropractic, returning patients on a GP plan are bulk billed, so there is nothing to pay for those visits.

  • Returning plan visits: bulk billed, no out-of-pocket cost.
  • First visit on a plan: a gap applies (the new-patient consultation fee less the Medicare rebate).
  • Up to 5 visits a calendar year, shared across all allied health services on your plan.
  • You need a referral letter from your GP.

Who is eligible?

You may be eligible if you have a chronic medical condition, generally one that has been present (or is expected to last) for six months or more, such as ongoing back or neck pain, osteoarthritis, or another long-term condition your GP is managing.

Your GP decides whether you're eligible and prepares a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan. You may know these plans by their older names: EPC (Enhanced Primary Care), CDM (Chronic Disease Management), GP Management Plan or Team Care Arrangement. Plans made before 1 July 2025 can still be used for allied health visits until 30 June 2027.

How it works

  1. See your GP

Book a longer appointment and ask whether a chronic condition management plan is right for you.

  2. Get a referral letter

If you're eligible, your GP refers you to a chiropractor by letter. The referral is valid for 18 months from your first visit unless your GP says otherwise. It doesn't need to name our clinic.

  3. Book with us

Choose "Medicare consultation" when you book online, or call us. Bring your referral letter, or ask your GP to send it to us.

  4. Assessment and care

Your first visit is a full assessment. Every plan visit is at least 20 minutes, one-on-one with your chiropractor.

  5. We report back to your GP

We send your GP a short report so your care stays coordinated.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral from my GP?

Yes. Medicare only covers chiropractic visits when your GP has prepared a chronic condition management plan and referred you by letter.

How many visits does Medicare cover?

Up to 5 allied health visits per calendar year in total, shared across all the allied health professionals on your plan. If you plan to see a physio or podiatrist too, talk to your GP about how to split them.

Is my old EPC or CDM plan still valid?

Plans made before 1 July 2025 (GP Management Plans and Team Care Arrangements) can still be used for allied health visits until 30 June 2027. Referrals written before 1 July 2025 stay valid until their visits are used.

What counts as a chronic condition?

Generally a condition that has been present, or is likely to be present, for six months or more. Your GP decides whether you're eligible.

What happens after my 5 visits?

You can keep seeing us at our standard fees. Your referral letter can still be used next calendar year, while it remains valid, when your new visits become available.

Can I use my private health insurance as well?

Not for the same visit. You claim either Medicare or your private health extras for each consultation.
